EXCURSIONS INTO HUMANS

documentary // 2025-present
ARTIST NOTE

Thus far, my artistic career has been defined by exploration, learning, and the fleeting pursuit of too many ideas and inspirations.

The industriousness of my creative processes often leads me to overcomplicate concepts and ideate beyond my capabilities. As a consequence, I have more projects on the shelf than published. This tendency has served both as a hindrance and a nuisance. For some time, I’ve aspired to develop a long-term to provide structure, a counterbalance to combat the chaotic, overcomplicated nature of my creativity.

I asked myself, what do I value in creation? Above all, my greatest aspiration is to create work that connects us to each other and to our shared humanity. How do I achieve this? The answer lies in simplicity. In stripping everything down to the basics—the purpose, the concept, the technique, the execution.

Thus, Excursions Into Humans.

This project is not only a challenge to build something over an extended period, but more deeply, a challenge for me to embrace incompletion and patience. It’s a commitment to cultivating something deeper and more enduring over my lifetime.

I hope for myself that this project serves as a constant reminder of what matters most to me—connection and learning.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Our time is plagued by an epidemic of inauthenticity dictated by curated digital personas and social performance. The selves we present and the stories through which we share them are filtered and simplified, reducing us to digestible fragments—polished, performative versions of who we are. In the pursuit of acceptance and validation, we risk erasing the complexity that makes us human.

The human condition is complex, and vulnerability is counterintuitive.  We fear the risks of vulnerability—judgment, criticism, uncertainty. Yet, it is through vulnerability that we connect to others and others to us.

This series seeks to challenge these mechanisms of the modern social world by capturing people in moments of raw intimacy, revealing the depth, complexity, and individuality of each person. Through a minimalist and dramatic aesthetic, subjects are stripped of external symbols and societal markers. In this environment, vulnerability and strength coexist, offering a space for subjects to engage with the fluid, multifaceted nature of their being and story.

By breaking down the visual language of power and expectation, the series invites reflection on the experiences that connect us all—redefining vulnerability not as weakness, but as an essential part of what it means to be human.
